Becoming A Makeup Pro..

So, my history with makeup is a long one, but also very simple.

I started wearing makeup in high school, but it was high school in the early 2000’s! I went from wearing nothing to wearing black black black, to that awful bright colored shadow with crappy eyeliner.

As an adult, and now a mother I have been more often found with no makeup at all. I don’t have the worst complexion most of the time and it is sooo much easier to just not deal with the hassle of putting makeup on every day. But, when I do wear makeup I want it to look good. So, with the help of one of my best friends, I am learning new techniques and products to use.

But, along with needing to know how to use makeup better, I also have very little products! Besides the basics, and some cheap eye shadow, my makeup collection is just about as good as it was when I only had $20 to spend on makeup!

So, I started a subscription to Ipsy a couple months ago. I have gotten 2 glam bags so far and should be getting my next one in the next couple of weeks! So far I have gotten a couple products that I actually really like, and a couple that I probably wont ever purchase, but that is the point, right!?

I was browsing youtube the other day and I came across a lovely young lady who gets Ipsy and Birchbox every month and each month, she opens her orders on camera and compares the boxes for both companies. It made me realize that for the same cost, they both have their good parts about them. Birchbox does look a little better, but I have liked what Ipsy has given me over the last couple of months. So, I started a Birchbox subscription that will start this month to go along with my Ipsy order.

My collection of beauty products will grow a lot faster now, and I am excited to keep trying new brands and products that most I have either never used or never even heard of before!

I will post a comparison of what I get this month from each, after I have gotten them both.

If you are interested in either I will post links to my referral at the end of this post, after pictures of the bags that I have gotten from Ipsy already!

Let me know if you have any questions about the products I received, or Ipsy/Birchbox subscriptions!

July Glambag from Ipsy:

Be A Bombshell: Lip Balm(pink)~ This was lighter than I expected, but it is cute and I love the feel of it.

Bare Republic Naturals: SPF 30 Tinted Face Sunscreen Lotion~ I used this a couple times. I am not really for tinted things, yes I am pale, and that is okay πŸ˜‰

OFRA: Bliss Eyeshadow~ I really like this shade and it was a nice large size, so I will have it for a while. It is light and doesn’t feel like I am wearing eyeshadow, and it is a nice shade for every day!

tarte: Deluxe Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer~ I had not used a bronzer before, but after being shown how to use it, I really like it. It helps my pale face to not look so washed out when I do wear foundation or powder.

Eau Thermale Avene: Gel Soapless Cleanser~ I love this stuff! I always wash my face in the shower and had recently ran out of my usual facewash when I got this. It doesn’t dry out my sensitive skin like most soaps do and besides the fact that it is a little pricey(~$20/6.7oz) I might look into getting it.

Overall I liked this bag. It was my first and I use 4 out of the 5 products almost daily! So that is awesome!

August Glambag from Ipsy:

La Fresh Group: Good Night, Night Cream~ I just started using this a couple nights ago and really like it. It feels great and my skin feels nice and smooth when I wake up! Buuut, it is $40 for a 1.7oz jar! *YIKES!* So I am not sure that this will be a product that lives in my home any time soon.

Noyah: Natural Lipstick~ This is a tiny kind of cheap feeling sample. It is super light and bright and kind of makes me think of a Barbie color. That is not really my style. I go between a natural, nude color, a red and Revlon’s Pink Truffle shade, so I tend to go a little darker, which goes better with my dark hair and pale skin, than Barbie pink does.. πŸ˜‰

Doll 10 Beauty: HydraGel Blush in Flirt~ I have only used this blush a couple of times, but I do really like it. It feels like nothing and blends in really well. I just need to get a better applicator for it.

Lord & Berry: Ultimate Lipcolor and Liner in Nude~ This is something I was super excited to get. The only liner I had was a very pale nude that pretty much made my lips the same color as my skin. This color is perfect with my Pink Truffle lipstick that I have and feels really nice!

Albertini: Divine Skin Hydrator~ This seemed like it would be exactly what I would want! I have very dry, sensitive skin, and have to lotion after every shower to not feel all dried out. This product says that it is an “in shower body moisturizer” so my first thought was, “yay!” But this was not how I felt after using it. IT made my skin feel a little sticky and I did not feel more hydrated at all. So, not going to be using this more, buying it, or recommending it.

So, those are my reviews for my past glambags. I do really like them, but I am sooo excited to get Birchbox as well, plus I am going to buy my love a LootCrate subscription soon too, and I might post those when they start, since while they are for him, I know I will get a little use out of the nerdy goodness that we will get in them! πŸ˜‰
